Meet the Family Behind the Dream

We are Sam and Cara Overduin, and alongside our three children, we’ve spent years dreaming, building, and growing together as this log cabin took shape. This place reflects our family’s journey and heart for Riverbend Cabin—read more about our story below.

Our Story

“He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.”
(Psalm 23:2–3)

What began as a blank, overgrown plot of land along a quiet bend in the river slowly became a dream that grew alongside our family. More than ten years ago, we purchased this untamed piece of property—thick with brush, untouched, and full of potential. As a family, we spent many evenings gathered around campfires, under clear, star-filled skies, dreaming together about how we might use this beautiful piece of creation. Our prayer was simple: that this space might one day become a small, cozy retreat where people could rest, reconnect, make meaningful memories together and be refreshed in both body and spirit.

As a young family, through the births and early years of raising our three children, we spent countless weekends and personal vacations here—clearing brush by hand, carving out space for our first RV trailer (which felt like a major upgrade after all the work of setting up our pop-up tent trailer each visit!), and slowly learning the rhythms of this piece of land season by season. In time, the riverbank opened up, paths were formed, and the vision of a log cabin retreat began to take shape.

Over the past five years especially, this dream became more of a reality. With the help of family and friends—and many long days cutting, lifting, staining, and assembling—we built Riverbend Cabin Retreat through rain, sunshine and snow. Our children worked alongside us, learning and growing as the cabin took form during their childhood years. Every log, beam, and detail holds a memory for our family—cherished memories of togetherness, perseverance, and a deep gratitude for God’s provision and safety through the many road trips and work projects.

This cabin has always been more than a building to us. It was created as a place of peace and respite—a space for cozy fires, shared meals, quiet mornings and unhurried time with the people who matter most. In a busy and noisy world, it is our prayer that this place would offer stillness and reflection, echoing the gentle call of Scripture: Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).

And now, after years of dreaming and building, we are grateful to finally be able to share Riverbend Cabin Retreat with you. Come visit, slow down and enjoy the beauty of creation that will surround you here.

As you explore our site, we invite you to enjoy some of the photos below from our journey.
